Black Hair in the UK: More Than Just Hair
Hair is not just hair — especially for Black women. It’s culture, confidence, creativity, and resistance. At Chrisam Naturals, we believe that Black hair, especially in the UK, deserves not only care but celebration. That’s why we created the Chrisam Naturals Haircare Survey for insights into the experiences of Black hair in the UK.
In our first national haircare survey, we asked 189 Black women across the UK to share their honest thoughts on haircare. Their responses revealed a powerful truth: Black women are still under-served by the haircare industry, but they are also bold, informed, and building beauty on their own terms.
What the Survey Revealed
We heard from Black women aged 18–55, from London to Leeds, Manchester to Milton Keynes. Whether relaxed, natural, or loc’d, their voices were clear regarding the significance of black hair in the UK.

- Thinning or weak strands

Time & Money: Doing More with Less

- 60%+ do their own hair at home, and many rarely visit salons
Despite this, they remain committed, curious, and informed; blending tradition with innovation. It’s evident that black hair and related care routines are significant in the UK.

Why This Report Matters
Too often, Black women are an afterthought in the beauty industry. As the British Beauty Council highlights in its Diversity in Beauty initiatives, the industry still has a long way to go in creating space where all hair textures and cultural expressions are truly valued.
But our data tells another story. Black women know their hair, trust their roots, and are actively shaping the future of beauty. Specifically, they are redefining black hair care practices in the UK.
This report isn’t just about products; it’s about power, pride, and progress.
